Combining 3D Printing and Education
This module has been created for a Stage 3 class and focuses on combining 3D printing and design with education.
3D printing is a new and rapidly expanding field becoming more and more accessible to educators and schools. So what is 3D printing? 3D printing is the process of making a three dimensional solid object from a digital file (3D Printing.com, 2015). 3D printers use ‘additive’ manufacturing, meaning the object is created one layer at a time using a 3D printer. Objects that have been created using 3D printers can have many uses when implemented correctly. These objects can provide doctors, mechanics, architects and of course teachers, with accurate and readily available resources to teach with. 3D printers provide the opportunity for students to become actively involved in the design process and creates endless possibilities for creativity within students. Students are able to collaborate, plan, design, test, experiment and manufacture a myriad of ideas. Within this module of work, students will be working in pairs to create and design the ultimate "ideal animal". Head to the 'lessons' page to find out more! |
